As requested by The Clumsy, blur at times, sleepy most of the time, human. ;p
Warning: This post is kinda boring, long and complicated.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.........
Captain E, the Chief Flying Instructor who was always busy with administrative work in charge of the whole flying wing.
Captain Z who was just promoted as the Safety Officer had two cadets under his guidance.
And E and Z were friends, both in the air and on the ground.....until one day...............
....after Z came back from his 2-day holiday and found out one of his students was allocated under E.
Z was furious, but there was nothing much he could do. E was his superior.
And this is where the war began.
Fast forward time a million light years...... until a week ago.
3 guys including me were scheduled with Z as our flying instructor in the Twin Engine Fleet. Z was known for not following the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) during training and had been grounded twice because of that reason.
Previously, two of his students failed PT5 because they did not flew according to the SOP.
We were worried about that too. After like 2 sorties we flew with him and noticed that he still had not changed his way of flying, we decided to complain to E (since he is the CFI).
Of course, none of us knew about The War at that time.
E advised us to file a report against Z complete with details of his mistakes. 3 of us asked whether we could change another instructor, E said it depends on our Standard Officer, H because H has the authority to ground any instructors.
And so we did. We wrote a report to H the next day and met with him to talk about our problem. H said that Z's mistakes were although alot but not serious enough to ground him. WTF?!
He promised to talk with Z and advised him regarding the case.
This was what we worried most. Since we filed a report against Z and Z he would not be grounded, that means our life was going to be a rough one with Z. So we told H not to mention about our report thingy to him to avoid more complications.
Z came out from H's office and walked to us. A smile on his face, he said he would follow the SOP.
Damn........did H tell him about the report or did he not?
Soon enough, hell began with my friend J, who flew with him the next day.
Z screamed and pressured J in the air. Like for example, during the approach to land, Z shouted: 2 REDS!!! 2 WHITES!!! 85 KNOTS!!!, 2 REDS!!! 2 WHITES!!! 85 KNOTS!!!, 2 REDS!!! 2 WHITES!!! 85 KNOTS!!! ... all the way until my friend landed.
Was he trying to force J to crash the aircraft or what?
Another one, during asymmetric briefing:
My friend: "I have a Right Engine Failure, already shutdown and secured. I will join downwind to land on Runway 03. On downwind I will delay the gears and flaps. My ADA is 400feet. Please warn me 200feet and 100feet before ADA. If I do not meet the 4 considerations by 400feet, I'll make a go-around. Any questions?"
The correct one should be: "I have a Right Engine Failure, already shutdown and secured. I will join downwind to land on Runway 03. On downwind I will delay the gears and flaps. My ADA is 400feet. Please warn me 200feet and 100feet before ADA. If I do not meet the 4 considerations at or before 400feet, I'll make a go-around. Any questions?"
Notice the difference? J was scolded because these few words! Is there any difference in definition between "by" and "at or before"?
There were more but I can't remember all.
After they landed, Z wrote a 2 full page of comments regarding J's performance. ALL were negative. Grade C - -.
J was speechless.
J flew with many other instructors before this, and his performance was really good. The grades he got from them were either A, B+ or C+ with no report of flying dangerously or whatsoever.
J started to wonder whether his flying skills was really that bad as described. His confidence went low. PT5 was just around the corner and he was worried that he couldn't pass it.
The next day, J was scheduled to fly with Z again. J went to meet E to request to fly with another instructor to check on his flying skills for one sortie (not to change instructor permanently). E said OK, cancelled his sortie and promised to put J under another instructor tomorrow. Z walked pass E's office and saw J inside.
Schedule came out and J again was programmed with Z. And again J met E to cancel his sortie. And so coincidently Z again saw J in E's office.
Z called to meet J the next day. Z told him that he would file a report to the company and to DCA about J's flying skills and attitude. He said J's attitude could kill hundreds of passengers one day.
Of course, my friend J tried to defend himself but Z said: You don't need to explain anything. You will know it in the report.
One of the conversation went like this:
J: Sir, I am just a student and only want to learn to fly properly. That's all I ask for!
Z: You don't go back door and meddle with the politics if you don't want trouble. But now you have already done it, like it or not, you have gotten yourself into trouble.
J: But sir, it's not like I want to get into this office politics. I just to learn to fly!
Z: Who instructed you to do this? I know who filed the report on me.
J: It was H who told us to write that report.
Z: No I don't believe it. Tell me honestly who! I know it is someone else behind all this.
At this time, J knew something was wrong already. Although he kept pressing on him, J still maintained his stand. Finally Z called off the meeting and went back home. Right before he left, he said to J:
"It's not because of your request, I say again, not your request, but I may think to reconsider whether to file the report on you!"
J worried the problem was going to get bigger. He went to meet E right after that and E said that Z's report would just be a useless paper unless the principal and he himself authorize it.
Two days later J finally got scheduled with another instructor to fly, permanently. The Deputy CFI met J and told him about The War. Now he got the complete picture of the puzzle.
Me and the other guy are stuck with him. Sigh~~
But it's ok, just few more days folks. Just few more days......and I will be outta here.
